Art
is a means to express what we feel or have experienced during the time
of our existence. Using different techniques and materials we can transmit
what we feel, live and observe in our own, distinctive way. |

CRITICS
Critic 1:
The
Angels are some of the most recurrent and disturbing topics of the universal
art. Messengers of heaven, are purely spiritual entities. According to the tradition
religious,God uses them to take their orders and manifest it in special missions:
the guard's Angel, the Announcer Angel, the Exterminator Angel, the Messenger
Angel , the Love Angel,etc.
Maria
Elena Rodriguez-La Rosa, has take the topic of the Angels to respond to their
formal and conceptual necessities, whose position was already implicity in her
immediately previous work.
In the constant purification of her plastic language,in the process of constant
synthesis until arriving to the last sharp expression, Malena goes building
the structures on those who she organizes her works. This sculptress's work
developes in effect the space that is her own starting from the lenghtened Angels,
of refined edges , where and expressive deformation of the reality is noticed, that
allows her to express the mysterious presence of that same reality, like a singular
concretion where the statement of power makes us forget the effects of the details,
the handmade beauty of the brass or the acrilic, to take us with more security
to the essenctial thing, to the rhytmic permises that fix the situation of the
sculpture and detemine its condition.
Maria
Elena has know how to avoid the reef of the handmade estilismo and its excess;
their ascetic and voluntary work registers in the ambient space, escaping from
the effect spreads to the esencial, and grasps it. This sculptress knows how
to dominate the matter trascending it without stopping to exalt the specific
elements. Her dialogue with the matter never fortuitous is always prepared by
a series of drawings and a slow elaboration, starting from a first outburst in
a clay block, too flexible material to valorize the pure expression.
The
since expression seem to take its true consistency in the second stadium of
elaboration of the work, in the moment of the finish, it is then when the work
of the hand makes the light that doesn't engender any violent contrast with
the shades to sprout. A light that assimilated the gray ones and the low tones
a lot but that the alive reflections.
These
Angels seated, kneeling, standing, show rough surfaces in contrast with the refines
ones, and the masses make clear the shades, thanks to a precise rhythmics balance
reaching a degree of dinamic expressive, where the cavities constructibles expand
in the space, and they lose the sense of their contour in the impulse of the
masses.
The
coherence of her production and the values of their current positions assure
possibilities to come of examining and enjoy a sincere and sensitive visual
expression.

Critic 2:
Her work allows to sintonize
with a concrete World. World that is profiles in the turns and rotate of her
sculptures, in the pure colors ,in her firm lines at painting. In the simplicity
in sculptural ways, in the transformation of the materials, in the harmony of
the designs, the force of character of a woman is guessed that she lives for
the art and its nurtured of its creations. It is a case of that common binomial
life-art that encourages the way of belonging to the artists.
Her sculpture is surprising. The one guessed right game mass-hole that characterizes
its three-dimensional works, configures them in solid units of composition and
in sense. The unfinished surfaces and the challenge to the statism of the dynamic
figures, accuse that each one has been worked with care, dedication, fondness,
and at the same time, with great vital force. Her painting connect in the claws
of the expressionism. The drawing is resolved and incisive. The use of full
colors, saturated and the mooring of each pictorical composition, speak to their
way,of a dominant passion : to find a visual language to give the artistic expression
to an entire existence.
Maria Elena's
works suggested the coalition of a dictomia : woman of great force and impulse
of tenacious dicipline and work.

Critic 3
(personal opinion):
Bronze is the most
enduring of metals for casting statues because of its beautiful colour that
matures with time. Bronze allows the statue to be touched so the form of the
work can felt just as the artist felt ir during its creation.
Maria Elena
uses bronze in her most effective series os cast statues-The Angels. Each Angel
has a slender and graceful human form but is balanced by the strong presence
from their expressive and perhaps symbolic poses.
The anatomical
form of the Angels stems from the Maria Elena's extensive knowledge of human
anatomy, which is fundamental to creating such imposing statuary. The skill
is reflected in the variety of expressive and naturalistic poses-from the authoritative
pointing Angel to the weary, resting Angel. Each has grace and movement where
you an believe that the Angels have souls, which is a reflection of the artist's
skill.
Maria
Elena has achieved in bronze a beautiful balance of form, movement and expression
creating bronze that speak-the Angels live up to their name
